Please, look and listen

The American economic system is collapsing. We can’t hide it, it is so. Many newspapers these days speak about the crisis and raise the issue about how far the sickness of capitalism has brought us. It is time to make some smart decisions, no matter what your (their) interests are and how full are your (their) pockets. Wired suggests the next US President to listen to and involve 15 of the Wired smartest people who have great ideas and solutions about climate change, energy, security, and defense. Read more

Paint it, White

“Dear Mister Jagger, the environment and I would kindly ask you to write a song called “Paint it, White” and make it climb the world’s hit parades, as you did with “Paint it, black” 42 years ago. Thank you and all the best”. A new Rolling Stones hit would certainly help to convince people (and governments) painting cities with a white color. The earth would say “thanks”. Yes, because light-colored roofs would reflect some sun radiations back into space, the earth would be receiving less energy and, thus, we would be practically fighting global warming. That is what California researchers claim on the basis of a deep study at the LBNL. San Francisco has already started: see, the houses look clean, the neighborhood seems a bright place and the energy bill of the air conditioning has surely reduced.

Wishing I were a Beaked Whale
We know so little, if anything at all about this particular species; -”There’s not much known about these creatures - where they live, their lifestyle. In fact, they might be the least understood group of large mammals on Earth.” says Ted Cranford from San Diego State University in California. Yet we, The Humans, continue to threaten their world. Their livelihood . We hunt them deep down on the sea floor and torture them to (almost) extinction. We trap them in our fishing nets, deprive them of their food by over fishing and feed them with plastic bags and some more toxic rubbish. We prowl around their habitants with our intrusive noisy gadgets, leaving mass strandings in our wake. We are, after all, The Humans; rulers of the living world. What shame!

Saudi Arabia wants Obama
It’s an old discussion for us, the ones who do not live in America but are strongly affected by the decisions made by U.S. president: should we have the right to vote at their elections?
Now, Economist invites us to do so. Obama is winning by far - in Kenya, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia he has 100% of the preference.

“10 to the 100th” ideas for Google

Typing a “googol” on Google is quite funny. Imagine if you were Mr.Google. Next january the game will be sorted out: Google will celebrate one of those once-in-a-lifetime coincidences (singing the Talking Heads hit). The 10th Google anniversary will all deal with the number “10 to the 100th”: literally, a googol, and, numerically, the $10m that the company will give to the best idea for changing the world by helping as many people as possible.
Hurry up, everyone! The deadline is October 20 and guidelines (categories and criteria) can be found at this link. Kudos to Google for the great idea!

Music for Obama: Yes, he can

They say he should be releasing an economic plan, rather than thinking about music. They could maybe know how to behave before election, but Barack Obama knows for sure how to involve the audience. “Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement” is the 18-tracks CD just released by Hidden Beach Recordings (on sale at www.BarackObama.com) for supporting the Democratic presidential nominee. Oh! Those earrings!
There was a time in American elections when candidates would present themselves and their projects and then would step back. Leave the scene. Let the voters debate and decide which ideas were better for the country. But that was back in 1860, when Abraham Lincoln was about to become president.
Nowadays, every single detail matters: from campaign logo to the name of your children.
Today, it is time for Sarah Palin to get a review on her jewelry. Or do you think the marketing guys would let her wear an earring without any purpose?
