The Patagonian culture is like a boliche – a store selling a wide range of articles – a melting pot of histories and cultures (Mapuche, Tehuelche, Fueguina, Chilean, Argentine, Lebanese and European).
Its history is a story of meetings, clashes and crossbreeding with others. From the indigenous populations to explorers and scientists, from missionaries to the Spanish colonizers, up to the more recent European migrations. Those who immigrated to Patagonia were searching for a promised land, a land that was each time a New Wales, the legendary city of Trapananda lined with gold, or the unicorn. The reality did not always live up to the ideal but those who decided to undertake the adventure were often transformed by the experience. For centuries Patagonia was just this. A permanent transformation: of peoples, customs, histories and practices.
