Patagonia and Benetton
Since August 2002, Patagonia has been the theatre for a complex story that has seen as protagonists, a family and groups of Mapuche activists, the Argentinean government and Benetton itself (represented mainly by Luciano Benetton). The incident brought to light a spiny, centuries old problem: that of the relationship between the indigenous communities and the Argentinean land, in which Benetton decided to take on an active role in the hope of beginning a larger process that would also involve other businesses and the Argentinean government.
In this section we thought back to the facts, since the beginning till its final outcome: Benetton will make available 7,500 hectares of land, so that it may be used for the needs of the indigenous populations. We furthermore present the correspondence that developed between Luciano Benetton and Nobel Prize winner Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, some public letters that decisively contributed to lead the event to the present state.
