Curiosities
WHEN From 20 to 26 August at Boise, Idaho, the 6th World Potato Congress will take place. After the China event in 2004, the summit will once again bring together the giants of the potato industry along with companies, institutions, and experts, to discuss a packed agenda. Final objective: the development of the potato industry.
WHERE At the potato museum. In Brussels, Belgium, for more than 35 years, the institution has dedicated itself with serious enthusiasm to the most famous tuber in the world. It is not the offshoot of some producers in the sector, but a non-profit organization, scientifically devoted to looking after and exploring the past, present and future glories of the humble tuber. The largest collection of potatoes in the world, and exhibits for all tastes, from the "literary potato" to "Potato peelers". One must on the museum website www.potatomuseums.com is Radio Potato: a potato-themed online jukebox.
HOW With dedication and seriousness. The Washington Potato Foundation www.potatoes.com predicts "a bright future for potatoes and the potato industry": every year it lavishes grants on students of potatoes. Attention: applications should be submitted before 15 February. |
