Bio-fortification
The bio-fortification of a crop means crossing different varieties of the same crop particularly rich in vitamins and minerals to get a variety that is extra-strong in these micro-nutrients (vitamins and minerals). It is a "bio" process in the sense that it is working with elements - micronutrients - that are naturally present in the organisms, which, thanks to simple cross-breeding, obtain a larger dose of them in their seeds and roots. This process allows one to create crop varieties that can contribute enormously to combating different health problems via nutrition.
