The cash economy is a sham because it tricks you into buying things that are in short supply. What is really important is being an active citizen and doing what we can to keep things in the best way possible for future generations. Money can’t buy this.
If we pool the knowledge, skills and collective wisdom of local people and we add a dash of enthusiasm we will create an unstoppable force with which to solve most social problems in any community.
Accepting help from other people is easier if you know you will have the chance to pay them back. It is even easier if I am the first to do someone a favor and thus build a reputation as someone who is worth doing favors for.
I am in favor of a local currency that automatically rewards people when they co-operate just as conventional money rewards people when they set themselves up in competition with each other.
If everyone could experience the warm feeling that comes from belonging to a mutually supportive social network then fewer of us would feel the need to unnecessarily consume material goods.
