UNILETS
UNILETS (United Nations International Local Employment-Trading System) is a worldwide LETS network, i.e. of Local Exchange Systems, made up of about 2,600 members in 53 countries.
The idea, promoted especially by “the engineer” John C. Turmel, is to give a global dimension to the experience of local exchange based on the valuing of time and individual resources, regardless of monetization
UNILETS, as all connected experiences, have a strong link with local or complementary currencies, rather than with actual time banks that exclude the use of all kinds of currency to measure the exchanged services.
UNILETS were brought to the attention of the United Nations on the occasion of the 2000 Millennium Forum, which recommended adopting such a scheme in its concluding document.
