Live without money? What a utopia! We all want it but it seems impossible. Impossible yes, but only to a certain point: the utopia of abolishing money seems to be not just a way of thinking about another possible world, but also an achievable method to change the world.
There are people who manage to travel without money (Servas, couchsurfing, homexchange etc). Some people have even made it an art form, by exploiting the idea of satisfaction or your money back. Or there are those who have decided to do away with official money and introduce complementary money of their own, which is used to buy goods and services (Timedollar etc).
Some of these stories show the genius and creativity of the individuals involved. Others represent instead the affirmation of a different idea of community living with a greater individual responsibility. You only have to look outside the tight circle of the Time Bank. Just think about the idea of youth justice administered by young people themselves…
