Mud Architecture
Wood is a precious resource, but in many Southern countries, especially in Africa, the use of bio-mass by the local population, together with a huge demographic increase, has created a real emergency.

Groups like the Green Belt Movement, are fighting the resulting desertification not only through the policy of reintroduction of the destroyed flora, but also by searching for solutions to take the place of timber.

In many third world countries woodless construction is at the forefront of ecological and sustainable solutions in construction, in particular, mud building, i.e. the art of building with clay earth.

An avant-garde laboratory that nonetheless draws on age-old traditions, whose historical reference can best be seen in Mali: this country is, in fact, famous for its earth construction, so much so that in Bamako (Mali), the Terra 2008 conference will be held there. This is the tenth world conference dealing with construction topics, including: conservation, anthropology, engineering, research, the development of sustainable architecture based on simple low-environmental-impact materials offered by nature.

An action-packed event organised by the Mali Ministry of Culture in collaboration with INCOMES and the Getty Conservation Institute.
