Too sexy for Xbox Live

xbox360full_500x526.jpgThe accusations have been flying after Microsoft banned the use of the gamertag “thegayergamer” on Xbox Live.

The Redmond giant have been accused to be “homophobic”, “a bigot”, “to not allow freedom of speech” and more.
But it’s all cleared up now, as a security manager for the company, Stephen Toulouse, explained on his blog.

“Terms of use clearly disallow content of a sexual nature,” he said.

Speaking about the tag, Toulouse added, “It did indeed contain sexual innuendo.”

Toulouse explained his reasoning for banning the tag saying that that Gamertags are visible to everyone and it would be hard for him to defend to a parent of a young child who saw it, that the name did not contain content of a sexual nature.

He added that tags like “TheStraighterGamer” or “TheHeterosexualgamer” would have gotten the same treatment and would have been found to be in violation and forced to be changed. “We’ve actually done that to tags like that before.”
