Why didn’t they use FedEx?

“Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev were among those who sent telegrams to Barack Obama last week upon his election as president of the United States.”

Yeah, Telegrams. That clunky, mesozoic system that Western Union threw out in 2006. I’m resisting all ‘Don’t they have email in Russia?’ jokes, because I actually think it’s a sweet gesture. A little like a handwritten lovenote.
