Yo non creo en Falkland Islands
On the left side of the World Map, in a country famous for its steaks and tango, a whole population is convinced that the Falkland Islands is Argentine territory - and should, therefore, be refered to as Malvinas Islands.
You might disagree, you might bring up many facts on the 1982 war and that will only prove you are not Argentine. Because if you were, this would be an unarguable fact.
That’s why it came as a shocking surprise that the Ministry of Defense of Argentina just released an issue of its magazine with a map of the Malvinas being called Falkland Island and with the capital - known to every citizen in Argentina as Puerto Argentino - being called Port Stanley.
The blunder came only two days after president Cristina Kichner made a speech on a UN Assembly, pleading England to open the discussion about the possession of the Malvinas.
The Ministry stated the map was a mistake and the printing was interrupted as soon as the problem was spotted, but the 200 copies which were out with the names in English were enough to start a huge polemic.
I wonder if the next step in the country will be a discussion about another Argentine unarguable belief: the fact that Maradona is the best soccer player in the world…
